Daily Acne Prevention Pointers

On a daily basis we often do things that we don’t realize will start an acne breakout.  Our hands and bodies come into contact with bacteria in various ways.  Here’s a list to consider when you’re trying to avoid stirring up an acne problem.

  • Never pop or squeeze your pimples.  This only makes matters worse due to the acne becoming inflamed taking longer to heal.
  • Don’t wash your face more than 3 times a day.  Those with oily skin should take this advice too.  Washing more doesn’t prevent acne.  If your face feels dry or tight, you’re washing too much.
  • Change your pillowcases every night.  Bacteria grows in your fabric causing acne breakouts.
  • If you work in a hot environment where you sweat a lot, take a shower immediately when you get home.  You’ve got to get the dirt and sweat off reducing bacteria infestation in your pores.
  • Keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water whether it’s sunny or cloudy.  In a cloudy environment you are still losing water.
  • Wash your face with a mild anti-acne soap.  Invest in it…it’s worth it.
  • Wash with your hands only and pat your face dry with your hands.
  • Don’t tan.  I know many people didn’t want to hear this but it’s true.
  • When talking on your cell phone, hold the phone away from your chin to prevent acne.
  • Don’t rest your head on your hand when your sitting at a table.
  • After exercising take a shower immediately (invest in an anti-acne body wash)
  • Remove work out clothes and athletic uniforms after wearing them and shower immediately
  • Keep athletic equipment clean, pads, and chin straps
  • Look for makeup moisturizers marked oil free or non-comedogenic.  Some makeup contains anti-acne medicine.
  • Use only approved acne medication
  • Shampoo your hair twice weekly.   Keep your hair off your face/shoulders especially when you sleep
